TheYu-Gi-Oh!franchise has seen a renewed presence in the world of video games over the last year with a mix of new games and major updates. The long-awaitedYu-Gi-Oh! Master Duellaunched earlier this year to massive success with the online card game quickly amassing a large playerbase following its launch.Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Linkshas also seen significant updates since last summer with the game adding Pendulum Summoning and an in-game world based on theYu-Gi-Oh! ARC-Vanime. Now, Konami is gearing up for its next major launch withYu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel.

The newest trailer for the upcoming mobile-exclusiveYu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duelofficially revealed its release date with narration from iconicYu-Gi-Oh!antagonist Seto Kaiba. The teaser trailer confirmedCross Duel’s release is right around the corner with the four-playerYu-Gi-Oh!game launching on September 6th, 2022. Teaser shots of the game showed off special animations for each anime season’s signature monsters like Dark Magician, Stardust Dragon, and Number 39: Utopia. Konami had previously opened pre-registrations forYu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duellast month.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duelwas first revealed during last June’s “Yu-Gi-Oh!Digital Next” streaming event alongside updates forYu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links,Master Duel, andRush Duel.Cross Duelwas presented as taking adifferent approach from the standardYu-Gi-Oh!style, presenting the gameplay as a four-player free-for-all similar to an iconic duel from the first anime.Cross Duelfeatures a tag team system with characters from throughoutYu-Gi-Oh’s history, allowing players to pair up with Yugi Muto, Jaden Yuki, and Jack Atlas among others.

A second trailer uploaded alongside the release date reveal dives more into the game modes ofCross Duel, covering single-player, tag duels, and the four-player co-op mode. Single player feature players matched against three AI-controlled opponents, moving their monsters along a linear grid to deal damage.Tag Duels feature players teaming upwith a partner with combined Life Point totals. Raid Duels feature all four players teaming up to take down a massive imposing boss monster in the center of the stage, while sending monsters at your allies will heal them.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel’s release comes following a somber time in theYu-Gi-Oh!community as fans mourn theloss ofYu-Gi-Oh!’s creator, Kazuki Takahashi. Takahashi was revealed to have passed away in early July with fans mourning the loss of the manga artist and card game creator. While Takahashi would pen several stories before coming toYu-Gi-Oh!, the story about Egyptian gods and card battles would be the artist’s most successful work.Cross Duelwill look to carry on the legacy of theYu-Gi-Oh!creator when it releases in September.
