World of Warcraftexecutive producer and vice president Holly Longdale stated that players focused on PvE content will have a new experiment to play with in the coming weeks. The announcement from Longdale came just over a week afterWorld of Warcraftlaunched Patch 10.2.6 and the limited-time Plunderstorm battle royale event.

Plunderstorm is an experimental, 60-player battle royale game mode thatWorld of Warcraftplayers can try out in the game’s modern client. Up to 60 players are thrust into the Arathi Basin to gather treasure and items. What players can scrounge up will be crucial to defeating other players and various creatures throughout the map. However, a storm will appear along the outer edges of the Arathi Basin and gradually force players to move towards a central point on the map to avoid being caught in it and eliminated. Since its launch,Plunderstorm has seen various adjustmentsto items that can drop, with Fire Whirl and Ice Arrow receiving nerfs after player feedback was considered.

The Timerunning mode will arrive with Patch 10.2.7, Dark Heart, in the latter half of Spring 2024. Whether this is the PvE experiment Longdale referred to or not in her message remains to be seen. However, Patch 10.2.7 will also bring new quests and a new holiday event to bridge the gap between theDragonflightandThe War Withinexpansions.

Between the ongoing Plunderstorm event and theimminent arrival ofDragonflightSeason 4,World of Warcraftplayers have plenty of content to sink their time into. Only time will tell how Blizzard’s next experiments will turn out.
