World of Warcraftjust put out a new cinematic that goes into the backstory behind its newest Legendary weapon, Fyr’alath. This flaming two-handed axe can be obtained inWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream–the content update teased by the cinematic.
Patch 10.2 hits on November 7, with the Amirdrassil raid coming a week later on November 14. Players who defeat theseWorld of Warcraftbosses can acquire some awesome cosmeticsand gear, including the new Legendary two-handed Strength weapon, Fyr’alath the Dream Render.
To generate hype for the upcoming content update,World of Warcraftreleased a cinematic titled “A Crown of Flame.” The video shows Fyrakk,voiced by the magnanimous Matt Mercer, monologuing about his plans for the World Tree, Amirdrassil. While the cinematic shows the heroes of Azeroth preparing to face Fyrakk, it also shows the Primal Incarnates' allies forging Fyr’alath the Dream Render. Near the end, Fyrakk uses the Legendary axe to literally carve a portal into the Emerald Dream, showing off the true reason behind its creation.
The cinematic shows Igira, the Djaradin elder freed by Primalist forces in Patch 10.1, as the one responsible for forging Fyr’alath. The entire purpose of the Fyrakk Assaults world event, where Igira can be heard taunting players, was to gather resources to construct powerful weapons, which she has finally done by making thenew LegendaryWorld of Warcraftweapon. The Druids of the Flame, who enchant the axe with its glowing runes, used to have connections to the Emerald Dream, so it makes sense they would be able to give Fyr’alath the ability to cleave a way into the mystical realm.
While fans almost always love theincredible work of theWorld of Warcraftcinematic team, players truly enjoyed this cinematic. Few connected the dots that Igira and the Druids of the Flame would actually be responsible for making Fyr’alath, even if it made perfect sense once they saw it. Many believe this short cinematic explained several plot points for the new patch and had newfound excitement for the update.
Fyrakk has been a fan-favorite character since his introduction, but considering he is thefinal boss of the Amirdrassil raid inWorld of Warcraft, his days as an antagonist are likely numbered–especially since players can get his axe from him. Luckily, fans can look forward to seeing the Primal Incarnate in action during Guardians of the Dream, and can also learn more about his history inWar of the Scaleborn, the newWorld of Warcraftnovel that releases on October 31.
