Witchbrookdeveloper Chucklefish has provided an update regarding the witch-training sim game’s ongoing creation. Excitement forWitchbrookwas immediate upon the game’s official announcement in 2018, but updates on the game have been incredibly rare since. The latest update fromChucklefishis unlikely to sate fans' excitement for news, but confirmation thatWitchbrookremains in active development should be enough to keep fans looking forward to the game’s eventual release.

The development ofWitchbrookhas been known for a very long time. AfterChucklefish publishedStardew Valleyin 2016and the game became a staggering success, Chucklefish shifted the resources it had dedicated to the project to something new -Project Spellbound. Even having been in development since around 2017, Chucklefish is givingWitchbrookthe time it needs to ensure the project is successful. Plus, with Chucklefish’s other focuses, like the development ofWargrooveand its DLC, as well as publishing over half a dozen other titles between 2018 and 2022, it’s a lot of work.

While some may have feared Chucklefish had shelvedWitchbrookdue to other priorities, the development team has now made clear there’s no need to worry.Witchbrookremains in active development, “full steam ahead!” Chucklefish says that its in-house development team in London is still working full time putting together the charming world ofWitchbrook. There are no updates onWitchbrook’s release timeline, but Chucklefish is working to make the game the best it can be.

Answering fans' question regarding whyWitchbrookis taking quite a bit of time, Chucklefish notes that it’s a zero-crunch studio and is proud of that. It believes that developers who are “healthy and well-rested” make better games. That may mean that development will take longer, but Chucklefish trusts it’s for the better. That team of only around 18 people likely helps explain the situation, too, especially givenChucklefish’s past controversy regarding not paying workers.

Prior to this early 2023 update from Chucklefish, the last update from the team was in mid-2022. Chucklefish added the game to Steam, confirmingWitchbrookwas coming to PC and sharing a handful of newwitchcraft and wizardryscreenshots showing gardening areas of the school, flying brooms, a town with shops, and a cafe with coffee and pastries. No gameplay trailers have been released, yet.

As painful as the wait continues to be forWitchbrook, Chucklefish’s update should hopefully cheer interested fans up. Not only isWitchbrookstill being worked on, but Chucklefish is hopefully indicating that it plans to be more communicative in 2023. New screenshots, or even a trailer, would be great to see. Still, Chucklefish has disappeared for years before, so only time will tell when the next update forWitchbrookwill be delivered.
