Taking inspiration fromThe Last of Us' environment, one fan has created something beautiful in Unreal Engine 5 that pays great homage to the PlayStation hit.
The Unreal Engine 5 demo comes as fans wait for HBO’s TV series based off of Naughty Dog’s title. Earlier this year it was revealed thatThe Last of Uswill not be premiering this year, and will not release until 2023. Redditor Battlefront_Captures has created an Unreal Engine 5 environment demo based off ofThe Last of Us. The twenty-second demo shows a long abandoned bedroom overgrown with foliage, with a guitar sitting in the background. “True Faith” by Lotte Kestner plays as we see the days pass by through the windows of the bedroom. The demo is one of many projects being released that are based off of the game, which include alive action fan film based off moments fromThe Last of Us.

The Unreal Engine 5 clip has garnered a lot of fans, with one stating that the short scene is “gorgeous.” One fan states that the demo reminds them of the title screen room fromThe Last of Us, which Battlefront_Captures says was the main inspiration. The clip does a very good job of capturing the feeling of the game’s environment, as it is beautiful yet haunting.
Battlefront_Captures is not the only one creating art that is inspired by the Naughty Dog classic. Redditor KikiColorspaintedThe Last of Us’Joel in the distinct art style ofDishonored, showing what he would look like in that universe. The painting captures many aspects of Joel, as it shows him with disheveled hair and a hardened look on his face. The painting captures a man who has seen better days, with the beautifully drawn lines showing the wear on his face.
Some of the fan art based off ofThe Last of Uslooks at the “what ifs” that we could have seen. Instagram user @fjorgust drew a painting of what they felt Sarah, Joel’s daughter,would have looked like as an adult. Sarah tragically dies at the beginning of the game, leading Joel to become the hardened survivor that fans love. In the painting, we see what Sarah would look like in her 30s.
