In a press release today by Collins, it was announced that a stage adaptation of her firstHunger Gamesbook and the Lionsgate movie will come to London’s West End theater. The theatrical production will be adapted by playwright Conor McPherson and directed by Matthew Dunster. “I’m very excited to be collaborating with the amazing team of Conor McPherson and Matthew Dunster as they bring their dynamic and innovative interpretation of ‘The Hunger Games’ to the London stage,” Collins wrote in a statement. Dunster, who has written or directed over 60 projects, says getting pitched to work onThe Hunger Gamesadaptation“might be the most exciting work call I’ve ever had.”
Dunster wasn’t the only one excited to be working on the project. McPherson talked about how the themes inThe Hunger Gamesare still so important today. “[Collins] has created a classic story which continues to resonate now more than ever,” he said. “In a world where the truth itself seems increasingly up for grabs, ‘The Hunger Games’ beautifully expresses values of resilience, self-reliance, and independent moral inquiry for younger people especially. This is turbo charged storytelling of the highest order and I’m hugely excited to bring it to a new generation of theatregoers and to Suzanne Collins' longstanding and devoted fans.”
It may not have beenThe Hunger Gamesremake that fans wanted, but it is the remake they got. Hopefully, the show does well and is eventually performed in other countries for more fans to see. It would also be great to see if this helpsmoreHunger Gamescontentget made in different mediums, like a TV series or AAA video game.
The Hunger Games worldis expensive, with several more stories to tell. Many of thosestories are set before the firstHunger Gamesbook, and many fans are interested in seeing it.
The Hunger Gamesplay will premiere in London’s West End in the Fall of 2024.
