Soulcaliburis a big-name fighting franchise, and the series has featured several modes that helped to elevate their respective games. Even though its star hasn’t shined as bright as fellow Namco fighterTekkenin recent years,Soulcaliburstill has its own following and is plenty of fun in its own right. One thing that a potentialSoulcalibur 7would need is a unique game mode that lives up to the standard set by previous single-player efforts in the series. A lot of these game modes deserve a second look to explain just what made them so entertaining.

There have been manySoulcaliburgames in the series' history, even though it has been over five years since the latest installment.Soulcalibur’s most notable shtick is the fact that each playable character has their own weapon to fight with. Thanks to this, there are major differences in range, speed, and sheer power among the cast, since almost every weapon is completely different from the next. The series has also benefited from its character creator fromSoulcalibur 3onward, granting players plenty of freedom in designing their own fighters. AfterSoulcalibur 6revived the series, there’s good reason to have hope for the franchise’s future.

Soulcalibur Has Plenty of Memorable Game Modes Worth Replaying

Soulcalibur 2’s Weapon Master Provided Plenty of Good Fights

Soulcalibur 2is a prime example of aSoulcaliburgame that deserves a remaster, and Weapon Master mode is a part of the reason why. Weapon Master was a single-player adventure mode where players would take on various fights across a series of maps, each with a story behind them. Most of these fights had some sort of stipulation behind them, keeping the mode exciting from match to match. Weapon Master was also the main way to unlock characters and weapons in-game, and it proved a good method of doing so. It’s somewhat surprising that Weapon Master ended up being exclusive toSoulcalibur 2.

Soulcalibur 3’s Chronicles of the Sword Offered a Strategic Twist

In addition to introducing character creation to the series, theChronicles of the Sword mode inSoulcalibur 3was one of the game’s innovations. This mode combinedSoulcalibur’s typical fighting gameplay with a strategy game. Chronicles of the Sword also had its own story that was completely separate from the main series, with its own set of original characters. Players can create their own protagonist, and collect new playable allies as the story goes along with the option of creating their own as well. Chronicles of the Sword was an interesting experiment, and a futureSoulcaliburgame could refine its formula.

Soulcalibur 6’s Libra of Soul Was a Fully-Realized Adventure

Libra of Soul inSoulcalibur 6may be the best game mode in the series to date. By usingSoulcalibur 6’s rich character creator, players design their own protagonists and send them through a story that sees them crossing paths with several canon characters. Along the way, players will collect new, stronger weapons, be able to switch their style at will and balance their character’s morality through certain choices in-game. The end result is a surprisingly immersive adventure that is one ofSoulcalibur 6’s best features. Bringing a similar adventure toSoulcalibur 7would be a welcome surprise for fans of the series.

TheSoulcaliburgames have proven that they’re willing to experiment with ideas in new installments. These creative game modes should instill plenty ofconfidence for the nextSoulcaliburgame. Weapon Master, Chronicles of the Sword, and Libra of Soul have all proven thatSoulcaliburcan do a lot by building off of its foundation of one-on-one battles, and they have repeatedly provided highlights for their respective games.Soulcalibur 7could add yet another excellent game mode to this list.Soulcalibur’s unique modes have become a memorable part of the series' legacy.
