As 2021 draws to a close and the gaming world prepares to head into a jam-packed 2022, many of the game industry’s biggest marketplaces have begun to release their best-selling lists for the past year.Nintendo titles dominated Amazon’s best sellerslist claiming 19 out of the Top 20 spots for the massive marketplace and many more lists will surely arrive within the coming days as companies wrap up their 2021.Steamrecently joined the end-of-year celebrations with its best selling list featuring a wide variety of categories celebrating the best and brightest of the year.
Steamsaw a plethora of highly-anticipated titles hit the platform throughout 2021, withHalo Infinitefinally releasing near the end of the year andResident Evil Villagecoming as a follow-up to the highly successfulResident Evil 7: Biohazard.Steam saw plenty of big titles rise up over the course of the year as well with games likeSkulandGTFOseeing massive popularity following their successful stints in the marketplace’s Early Access program. Now, Steam has released their top sellers of the year, honoring games both old and new alike.

Steam’s end-of-year best seller list divides its games into six different categories with games receiving honors for being the best sellers of the year, a category for the platform’s most played games, and honoring games that have graduated from its Early Access program. Each category is divided into four different tiers ranging from the highest tier of sales at Platinum down to Bronze. The Top Sellers list is dominated by many of gaming’s biggest stars withnames likeDead by Daylight,New World, andDestiny 2,among others sitting in the Platinum tier.
The New Releases category is dominated by many unsurprising faces with games likeNew WorldandBack 4 Bloodsitting high in the Platinum category following their highly publicized launches earlier in the year.Grand Theft Auto 5also continued to show no signs of aging this year, with the game still dominating Steam’s charts nearly seven years after the popular open-world shooter game came to the platform.
Steam made waves in the gaming community earlier this year when the massive marketplaceofficially announced the Steam Deck, a handheld device similar to the Nintendo Switch that would give players access to Steam’s massive library of games on the go. While the device has been delayed multiple times throughout the year, Valve designer Greg Coomer did report earlier this month that the console was on track for a February release date.
