Summary
The classic card game Sabacc will finally be playable inStar Wars Outlaws, as revealed by the game’s ESRB rating. Ubisoft andAvatar: Frontiers of Pandoradeveloper Massive Entertainment announced that they were working on an open-worldStar Warsgame back in 2021, but it wasn’t until last June’s Xbox Games showcase that fans learned what it was going to be about.Star Wars Outlawswill put players in the role of Kay Vess, an aspiring outlaw looking to make her mark on the criminal underworld by pulling a massive heist against the rising Zerek Besh organization.
As is the case with most of Ubisoft’s open-world offerings, there will be a lot for players to do inStar Wars Outlaws. Kay’s mission will take her to a handful ofclassicStar Warsplanets, each one filled with different environments and side tasks she can perform at the behest of nefarious criminals like Jabba the Hutt and the Crimson Dawn. Kay can choose to ally herself with these dangerous organizations while staying one step ahead of the Galatic Empire, and she can travel from one world to another aboard her ship “The Trailblazer.”

Fans might also be able to engage in a classic criminal pastime inStar Wars Outlaws, at least according to the recently releasedESRBrating summary. The brief description of the game’s content mentions “Simulated Gambling” as a reason for its Teen rating, and the included summary paragraph says that players will be able to wager in-game currency on Sabacc - a blackjack-like card game with detailed rules and deep ties to thelargerStar Warslore.
Sabacc Will Finally Be Playable In Star Wars Outlaws
Sabacc was first introduced in theStar WarsLegends novelLando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharuback in 1983, and it has gone on to become a major staple among theStar Warscriminal element in the four decades since. As die-hardStar Warsfans know, Han Solo famously won his trusty spaceship the Millenium Falcon from Lando in a game of Sabacc, an event that would later be shown inthe 2017 filmSolo: A Star Wars Story. While the 1989Star Warstabletop game fleshed out Sabacc’s ruleset and real-life decks are sold at Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge attraction, no video game has ever adapted it.
BeforeStar Wars Outlaws, the closest fans got to playing Sabacc in aStar Warsvideo game was the similar card game PazzakinStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This will finally change inStar Wars Outlaws, which will allow players to engage in “Simulated Gambling” by wagering in-game currency on rounds of the classic card game. While Kay Vess might not be able to win a legendary spaceship like Han did, it will be interesting to see how Sabacc is played when the game launches on August 30.
