Despite its initial success as a television show,SpongeBob SquarePantsquickly became popular in other entertainment mediums. For example,SpongeBob has starred in many video gamesover the years. While the quality of these titles has not always been consistent, many of them have become memorable to fans. In addition to these past games, a new installment in the series is in the works calledSpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake.
First announced in September 2021,SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shakeis an upcoming 3D platforming game developed by Purple Lamp Studios and published by THQ Nordic. Ever since its reveal, the hype for the game has been high as the developer hadpreviously worked onSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, which was released in 2020. Recently, fans got a fresh look at the gameplay for the developer’s upcoming title.

During the2022 THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, the publisher gave fans a new look atSpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shakein a new trailer that lasted over 3 minutes. While an announcement trailer was shown last September, that one only featured a cinematic. However, this new look at the game provided fans with a look at what to expect from the gameplay, such as a number of platforming segments.
In the trailer, many familiar faces from the series were seen. WhileSpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shakeput players in control of SpongeBob, other favorite characters, such as Gary, Patrick, and Squidward, were present. Furthermore, the trailer gave fans a look at several destinations included in the title, such as prehistoricBikini Bottomand a wild west-themed area. Along with these locations, SpongeBob wore various outfits corresponding to the locales.
As far as the gameplay was concerned, the trailer forSpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shakeprovided a look at several abilities for SpongeBob. For example, it revealed that he has the ability to perform karate moves to take out various enemies, and he can even use a pizza box to glide long distances through the air. Beyond this, parts of the trailer showed SpongeBob riding a seahorse and running on a giant boulder, among other things.
It will be interesting to see what information aboutSpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shakeis revealed in the coming weeks. While the game still does not have a release date, it is likely exciting for fans to get a chance to see a glimpse of what the game looks like. Time will tell if the final title can live up to the hype.
