Spider-Man: No Way Homehelped forge a strong bond between Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Holland, according to Garfield. In a new interview, he said that the trio is now a “brotherhood” that supports one another unconditionally.

Spider-Man: No Way Homewas a huge success upon its release last year. Its promotional campaign was incredibly secretive, as Marvel Studios did not want to reveal that the film would also feature the return of Maguire and Garfield to their iconic roles. Funnily enough, this led Garfield to lie to formerAmazing Spider-Manco-star Emma Stoneabout his appearance inSpider-Man: No Way Home.Security was tight, but it seems that the bond forged between the three is tighter.

In a new interview withGQ, Garfield talked about starring inSpider-Man: No Way Homeand how close he became with Maguire and Holland. “I got to treat it like a short film about Spider-Man with buddies. The pressure was off me. It was all on Tom’s shoulders. Like, it’shistrilogy,” Garfield said. “And me and Tobey were there to provide support and have as good a time as possible, actually, and be as inventive, imaginative, and kind ofdumbas possible.” He said that he had his reservations at first, adding, “Y’know, between the three of us, I was like,Oh s***, this is going to be interesting. You have three people who feel real ownership over this character. But it was really, like, brotherhood first, I think. And I think that comes through in what we shot.”

Garfield also commented on how surreal it was to return to the role of Spider-Man after assuming he was completely done with the role. “I don’t know if I had an expectation of doing more. I was very open to it being whatever it was meant to be. But there was anundonefeeling. Like,What was that experience about? And how do I close that circle in my living room on my own?” Garfield said. “And I wasdoingthat – and then it was like that classic thing, when you’re getting over a relationship, and you’re first starting to really feel free and untethered from that thing — the person knows to call thehourafter the first good night’s sleep you’ve had.” It’s unknown how he feels now, but shortly after the release ofSpider-Man: No Way Home,Garfield said he has no plans to return as Spider-Man.

Garfield has someconditions for a potential return as Spider-Man, which include being able to work with Maguire and Holland in the future. He has also stated that he wants the story to be “unique.” With this saga of the MCU being the Multiverse Saga, though, there’s little doubt that a unique story centered around Garfield’s Spider-Man can happen.

The camaraderie Garfield shared with Maguire and Holland was evident in the finished version of the film. And it appears that that friendship has held in real life as well. Garfield and Maguire even admitted tosneaking into aSpider-Man: No Way Homescreeningtogether just for the fun of it. Hopefully, the three of them can reunite on screen again.

Spider-Man: No Way Homeis now available on Amazon Prime Video.
