SomeSonicfans have praised the game as being a big step forward for the franchise, though others were less impressed with the Blue Blur’s first open world outing.
There are millions ofSonic the Hedgehogfans out there, and it’s safe to say that many of thempre-orderedSonic Frontiersor otherwise purchased it on day one. Those fans paid the full retail price of $59.99 to get their hands onSonic Frontiers, but if they had just waited a couple of weeks, they could have picked it up at a big discount. Right now, theSonic FrontiersBlack Friday deal appears to only be for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game. TheNintendo Switch version ofSonic Frontiers, notable for having poorer performance than its PlayStation and Xbox counterparts, appears to have sold out. Same goes for the Xbox Series X version of the game. It’s possible the stock will be resupplied, especially since Amazon has had some chaotic gaming deals this year, but for now, fans can only count on getting the deal for PS4 or PS5.
While someSonic the Hedgehogfans may be worried that the game being discounted so heavily is a sign it’s not performing well, that’s not necessarily the case. It’s not uncommon at all for even the biggest games to get huge discounts or be made part of special promotions during the holiday shopping season, even when they’re new releases. For example,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2was part of the latestTarget Buy 2 Get 1 Free video game promotiondespite it being a recent release and probable best-selling game of the year.
That being said, it will definitely be interesting to see howSonic Frontiersdoes in the long run. As previously mentioned,Sonic Frontiersreviewshave been mixed, and if that weren’t enough, the game has had some seriously stiff competition. The highly-anticipatedGod of War Ragnaroklaunched just one day afterSonic Frontiershit store shelves, whilePokemon Scarlet and Violetreleased a week later. It’s possibleSonic Frontiershas been selling great despite this, but fans won’t know until Sega decides to share sales data for the game.
