One of the big things about this victory is that, historically, theSonicfranchise hasn’t been as popular in its home country as opposed to the West. Considering thatSonic Frontiersexceeded its forecasted sales predictions, selling nearly 3 million copies by the end of its fiscal year, this is a major sign that Japanese fans were won over by the game, especially in comparison to critically acclaimed games likeRagnarokandForbidden West.

He pointed out that before the game’s release, the game won at the Japan Game Awards in the Future Division, which was an award received for a game that was highly anticipated by fans who played it at Tokyo Game Show. Kishimoto states that seeingFrontierswin the award from Famitsu was very encouraging, and thanked the many fans for their support.
