ASonic Frontiersprequel comic has been announced. The blue blur’s history in comics speaks for itself as the canceledSonic the HedgehogArchie comics still hold the title as the longest running video game comics in history. Recent game releases have usually come with tie-in comics that either showcase small in-game story events, or act as supplementary material that aims to explain how the plot of the newestadventure for Sonic and his friendsbegan.ForSonic Frontiers, its own comic is the latter. It’s known as “Sonic Frontiers: Prologue: Convergence.” The cover shows Sonic, Tails, and Amy riding on the Tornado as Dr. Eggman looms behind them as he seems to be fading into pixels. This directly references what’s been revealed of the game’s story so far, which begins with Sonic and company heading out to find the Chaos Emeralds, only to get sucked into a wormhole. Sonic wakes up on the island alone with many questions, and no sign of Tails or Amy.RELATED:Sonic Frontiers Shows Combat, Skill TreeWhile the summary may be good enough for some players, others may want to see the events that lead up toSonic Frontiersin more detail, and that’s where the prologue comic comes in. According to the announcement post, the comic will come in two parts, with the first being released on social media this Tuesday.

However, some fans were confused by this announcement, as back in June, as Sonic Central presentation revealed a prequel animation that has yet to come out. It starsKnuckles the Echidna, and most likely explains how he got involved with the story as he’s found on the Starfall Islands later in the game. TheSonicsocial media channels were quick to clarify that players are getting both a prequel comic and animation short.

A prequel comic toSonic Frontiersmakes perfect sense considering the lead writer for the game is Ian Flynn, former head writer of theSonicIDW comics. Sonic Team has also said it plans to use comics, games, and the upcoming Netflix TV show totie the entireSonicuniverse togetheras one cohesive experience. The existence of aSonic Frontiersprequel comic only helps with this endeavor.

Sonicfans have been given quite a fair bit of information about the game in the past few months, and more is on the way if a teasing tweet from Flynn is to be believed. With less than a month to go until launch, the prequel comic might be best sticking to what’s already known about the game toavoid revealing too much ofSonic Frontierstoo early.

Sonic Frontiersis scheduled to release November 8 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
