Skybound Entertainment has revealed that it intends to make video games based on theInvinciblefranchise. The announcement was made earlier this week and will be a part of the franchise’s upcoming 20th anniversary next year.Skybound Entertainment, however, did not reveal any details for any upcomingInvinciblegame.
Originally published from 2003-2018,Invinciblewas a comic series written byThe Walking Deadscribe, Robert Kirkman. While popular among comic fans, the series was not particularly well known in the mainstream until relatively recently. This was primarily thanks to the launch of an animated series of the same name, which released its first season on Amazon Prime in 2021. This adaptation ofInvinciblehas been hailed by some as thebest superhero television show of 2021, and a second season is currently in the works.

Since the Amazon series was released, theInvinciblefranchise has exploded in popularity, and many have wondered what will be next for the property. Recently, however, Skybound Entertainment unveiled what was on its docket without giving away too many details. As part of the comic book’s 20th anniversary, the company revealed that a number of new projects were in the works for a release in 2023. Among these projects is anInvinciblevideo game. In the past, creatorRobert Kirkman has teased that anInvinciblevideo gamewas in the works, but this is the first time some kind of release/announcement window has been revealed. Skybound Entertainment remained silent on any details regarding the game.
SinceInvinciblewas released on Amazon Prime, fans have been clamoring for a game in the franchise or some kind of crossover with another. Some have suggested thatOmni-Man should appear in theMortal Kombatseries, with franchise co-creator Ed Boon endorsing the idea. Others still think the series should get its ownMortal Kombat-style fighting game, while others think it should go a different route.
Skybound Entertainment has, in the past, dipped its toes in the video game medium through its Skybound Games division. This branch of the company notablytook over the development ofThe Walking Dead: The Final Seasonafter Telltale Games went bankrupt in 2018. Since then, the company has primarily stuck to publishing remasters of older PC games like theBaldur’s Gategames, and the development ofThe Walking Deadmobile games. How Skybound Games will approach anInvinciblegame, for now at least, remains to be seen.
