There’s no question that Capcom’s RE Engine has made recentResident Eviltitles look phenomenal, including the series' most recent release,Resident Evil 3. However, one player saw the4K quality gameplayand decided to twist up the stellar graphics by tweaking with the game’s facial and body animations.

YouTuber DPO23 is a modder who alters games likeResident Evil 3and shares the results on his channel, often to hilarious and horrifying ends. For his latest project, the mod alters the facial animations and completely disrupts the normallycinematic sequencesby turning the animations up to 500%.

The results of turning the facial animations up by such a degree means that characters like Carlos, or the antagonistic Nikolai, wind up emoting with inhuman facial features. Lips, cheeks, and eyebrows begin to fly all around the screen as the motion capture is thrown completely out of sync and the characters look more terrifying thanResident Evil 3’s scariest monsters. Although, the mod isn’t limited only to changing facial animations, and what it can do to full body animations is equally horrifying.

This is not the first time that a modder has used their skills to alter the looks of theResident Evilgames, although most other modders seem to have been previously focused on improvements likeenhancingResident Evil 3’s visuals with ray-tracing.While some fans have mixed responses to visual changes inResident Eviltitles due to the way that it can negatively affect the tense atmosphere of the world, DPO23’s fans have certainly been enjoying the comical effect of his animation alterations. Having previously done the same with bothResident Evil 2and7, the modder has grown a community around these strange effects, so this is par for the course for the channel.

While there is plenty to do inResident Evil3, evenafter beating the main campaign, the modding community is a major resource for keeping a game entertaining well after players have beaten every challenge the game can through at them. In the case of DPO23, it can mean offering some players and fans with at the very least some entertainment while they wait forResident Evil 8to release and begin occupying their time. However, fans should keep an eye out for the future, as new hardcore modes and alterations to make the game mirror its original version may be popping out of the modding community soon, giving players whole new ways to approachResident Evil 3.

Resident Evil 3is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
