PangolinIcy9769 has shared a number of juxtaposed images, where they have selected a number of promotional images fromRed Dead Redemptionand recreated them inscreenshots ofRed Dead Redemption 2. Perhaps more than anything else, these images shown back-to-back showcase how much the sequel has been able to improve upon the original, at least in terms of graphical fidelity. One promotional image from the original game shows John Marston as he runs along the top of a train, and PangolinIcy9769 has then recreated the image’s action sequence inRed Dead Redemption 2with a nearly identical camera angle.

The second promotional image fromRed Dead Redemptionshows Marston rearing a horse while stationary as a rail train passes them by. Noticeable graphical improvements in the fan’s recreation of the shot are the meticulous details on the front of the locomotive, with shadows being cast from the in-game sunlight.
A third promotional image bears a similar action pose from Marston as he rears a horse, but this time staring the oncoming train head-on. PangolinIcy9769’s recreation truly shows offRed Dead Redemption 2’s visual enhancements with a contrast in the nighttime. The promotional image’s lighting casts a wide beam from the train’s headlight without creating any distinct shadows or silhouettes. But the fan’s image fromRed Dead Redemption 2shows that the train’s headlight casts a narrow light, illuminating Marston and the horse distinctly.

The promotional images and the fan’s images are from two games that launched eight years apart from one another, and the differences are notable. Many fans have responded to PangolinIcy9769’s images, praising the superior lighting, textures, and environments that the sequel’s images are able to capture. There also seems to be an enthusiastic fan reception forRed Dead Redemptionreceiving a remaketreatment, where fans ofRed Dead Redemption2’s graphics would appreciate experiencing the original game with enhanced visuals of its own.
Red Dead Redemption 2is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
