While the new innovations of the PlayStation 5 are receiving high praise, the launch of the console has not come without some issues. Some users are reportinghard crashes when the PlayStation 5 is put in rest modeand while not outright bricking the console it has had some dire impacts on use of the feature. Other users are reporting heating issues and save file corruption. It’s worth noting that launch consoles tend to have unexpected issues that are typically resolved with patch updates or new iterations of a console.
The PlayStation 5’s heating issues for some users are particularly odd given the design of the console. When the console was unveiled earlier in the summer, many fans were surprised by the PlayStation 5’s odd shape and size which Sony announced was intentional for aesthetic and functional purposes. The wing design of the console is set to address heating and Sony highlighted the fan design in abreakdown video of the PlayStation 5earlier in the year.
Meanwhile, Sony’s recent firmware update for the PlayStation 5 finally brings a feature many fans were anticipating with theaddition of Variable Refresh Rates. VRR will provide a cleaner look to games for those who have a TV that support the feature, the addition of Variable Refresh Rates will mean less screen tearing in games.
