Upon launch back in September 2020,Phasmophobiaskyrocketed to overnight success. With its unique ghost hunting gameplay mechanics, it became a popular choice for horror lovers, especially among the streaming community. It also becameone of the highest rated games on Steamand still sits comfortably among the platform’s top 100 games, above the likes ofHalf-Life: AlyxandThe Witcher 3. Needless to say, the developer, Kinetic Games, has a vested interest in keeping its popular IP in good stead with the fan base, and so there are some more updates on the way.
In a recent post on thePhasmophobiaSteam page, the studio has offered up some previews of what’s to come in a future patch and revealed some of the interesting ideas that are due to be implemented at some point. Among things like an overhaul of the main menu that moves it to a corkboard design rather than the current marker board, there will also be a change to the multiplayer lobby that makes it possible for players to vote on the chosen map or go with a random location.

Probably the most intriguing additions to the game are the ID cards and what appears to be a new map. Last year’sMaple Lodge Campsite was the last map added toPhasmophobia, which arrived with the implementation of a new “nightmare” difficulty. Maple Lodge Campsite was the first exterior location, with players having to go ghost hunting at a fairly large campsite. Since then, fans have been asking for a new map. The developer preview shows a couple of really dark images from the upcoming “Sunny Meadows,” with the post on Steam saying that fallen and broken lights will add an “extra layer of difficulty” for players. However, while some think the screenshots hint at a new Hospital location, others believe it might just be a rework of the game’s Asylum map.
Many of the major patches recently have put emphasis onVR updates forPhasmophobia, which was given an overhaul last month, though there were also some changes to the game in general. One of these rearranged the layout of some of the maps, such as the location of the utility room door in Tanglewoood, and completely swapped out the living room and kitchen in Ridgeview. It also made it much more difficult for players to hide behind doors when the ghost initiates a hunt.
Asone of the best multiplayer horror games,Phasmophobiawas something of a lightning-in-a-bottle situation. Much has been added and changed since it first came to Steam, and Kinetic is seeking to continue with that endeavor and hopefully keep fans interested.
