The story ofPayday 2is not just about robbing banks and stealing from the rich. There is a rather lore-heavy story involved inPayday 2. To better understand the story at hand, players will want to know thePayday 2heists in story order and learn the true nature of the game’s beginning to its end.
16The First World Bank
The First World Bank provides players with a big splash into thePayday 2world. Players should go through this heist first, as although there are plenty of other heists, The First World Bank is the one that started it all. This heist drew the attention of The Dentist, and the secret Overdrill vault is how the characters received the Mayan gold needed for later in the story.
The First World Bank is one of the first and most famous heists from the franchise, and it’s a great heist to start with due to its potential difficulty in both Stealth and Loud activities that will see the efforts of the four heisters work as a team.

15Election Day
In a meeting with a contractor called The Elephant, players will be tasked with altering the trajectory of politics for Washington DC. The objective of Election Day is to place a GPS tracker on a truck that carries voting ballot machines, so that players can follow this truck for Day 2 of the heist and sabotage the legitimacy of this election, allowing for the mayoral candidate Bob McKendrick to win.
The reason the Payday gang takes on this mission from The Elephant is so that with Bob McKendrick as the mayor, they can call in a favor to help their friend, Hoxton, transfer out of a maximum security prison and into a lighter security one that will make it easier to rescue him.

14The Big Bank
All seems to be going well with the Payday gang until Dallas goes to his regular dentist for a check-up. Here, he is met with an unfamiliar face who goes by The Dentist. This character knows Dallas’ true identity and wants to use him and the Payday gang to rob the Benevolent Bank, which inPayday 2is named The Big Bank.
The reason for heisting in The Big Bank is to show the strange contractor relationship with The Dentist, and how dangerous this bank is to rob. The heist isdifficult in both Stealthand Loud, and it proves that The Dentist was testing the Payday gang to see what they were capable of. After all, The Dentist knows of a way to break Hoxton out of prison, but The Big Bank is just the start.

13Hotline Miami
After The Big Bank was robbed by the Payday gang, The Dentist has another mission for them that will help secure the release of Hoxton. Hotline Miami is the next heist in the story, and it involves the Payday gang attacking a Russian criminal organization led by “The Commissar”. Players will need to kill The Commissar’s men and destroy his properties so Bain can track the Russian criminal down, leading to his assassination.
The reason The Dentist needs The Commissar dead is due to this character’s ties with the District Attorney. The Commissar can influence things with the DA thanks to his power, but with him out of the picture, The Dentist can leverage the DA into lowering the security around Hoxton’s prison transfer.

12Hoxton Breakout
The day has arrived, and the original Payday crew is about to embark on a breakout that will ensure the release of one of their own.Hoxton Breakout does exactly what is expectedof the title, and it has the Payday crew breaking their old friend Hoxton out of his chains, and into the release of the Payday gang to cause mayhem and robbery once more.
This was all thanks to The Dentist’s planning, and with Hoxton free, they are indebted to him. However, Hoxton Breakout involves not just freeing the man, but infiltrating the FBI headquarters so Hoxton can find a lead on who framed him and put him in prison in the first place, as he believes CRIME.NET has a rat.

11The Diamond
After The Dentist scratched the back of the Payday gang by helping with the less-than-legal release of Hoxton, it was time to return the favor. The Dentist tasked the Payday gang with The Diamond, a heist within the McKendrick Museum of Ancient Arts that held many strange oddities. However, the target wasn’t the expensive artifacts, but the illustrious and allegedly cursed diamond that awaited inside a booby-trapped room.

The Payday gang might not know about the capabilities of the diamond, but The Dentist wants it, and that’s good enough for them. The importance of the diamond cannot be understated, and the heisters may be confused by the artifacts and strange creatures on exhibit within the museum.
10Hoxton Revenge
As impatient and rude as ever, Hoxton decides that he isn’t going to proceed with any more heists until he has had his revenge. Therefore, Hoxton Revenge is the nextheist on the list, which is a direct continuation of the story from Hoxton Breakout. Within Hoxton Revenge, the Payday gang head to an FBI safehouse just outside of town, where the FBI informer is waiting safely.
Hoxton Revenge will have the players access a vault that holds the rat, the man that put Hoxton in jail. When the vault opens, the gang is surprised to see that the traitor before them is Hector, one of the original contractors inPayday 2. All of Hector’s contracts were to set up the Payday gang.

9Golden Grin Casino
With the rat problem dealt with, Hoxton returned to heisting with the Payday gang, and their next mission was perhaps their most confusing yet. The Dentist tasked the Payday gang with infiltrating the Golden Grin Casino, and mysteriously, this is the last contract that The Dentist provides the Payday gang with before he disappears, at least, for now…
Despite the millions of dollars awaiting the large vault of Golden Grin Casino, The Dentist only cares about one thing: a strange box titled The Artifact. The Dentist’s loot is as suspicious and confusing as ever, especially since he doesn’t care about the money that the Payday gang can help themselves to.

8Alaskan Deal
Now that the contract with The Dentist had been fulfilled, the Payday gang was free to rob, heist, and loot anywhere they wanted. However, soon after, they received a job called the Alaskan Deal, which was meant to be a weapons deal between the contractor, Locke, and the arms dealer, The Butcher.
As soon as players enter the Alaskan Deal heist, things go south, and Locke flees inside an FBI vehicle. It seems that the dear friend of the Payday gang betrayed them, just like Hector did. This heist sees the Payday gang desperate to escape, and plan their next move once they are out of the harsh winter, and home-free.

7Reservoir Dogs Heist
In perhaps the most confusing heist, the Reservoir Dogs Heist puts a Tarantino spin on the events that unfold next, asthe two-day heistis in reverse order. The job itself follows the Payday gang as they attempt to rob a jewelry boutique in Los Angeles alongside the Cabot crew. However, this is a setup that leads to Bain’s capture, and the Payday gang is left in the dark as to who did it.
Bain’s last words provide them with more confusion, as Bain tells them to trust Locke, the very man that set them up in the Alaskan Deal. Locke helps the crew escape and then tells them that the crew needs to help find something to get Bain back. He also informs the crew that the setup in the Alaskan Deal was necessary to get powerful people off of his tail, and the Payday crew in a safe area.
