During this year’s BlizzCon it was finally confirmed thatOverwatch 2will not be launched in 2021. This came as sad news for fans who have been waiting for the game’s new installments for a while now, but that does not mean there are no updates about the upcoming sequel. Jeff Kaplan, the game’s director, recently confirmed in an interview thatOverwatch 2will include a new dog that is supposedly going to be loved by users.

This would not be the first time we see cute pets onOverwatch. For instance, there is Orisa’s puppy and Bastion’s bird, Ganymede. Additionally, Brigitte Lindholm, one of the Heroes from the first game, is known for being a cat person. As part of Brigitte’s backstory, it was shown that she loves cats and even created a cardboard armor for one of her pet cats as a child. Kaplan mentioned that Brigitte will also appear onOverwatch 2which means fans will probably get to see more of her cats in the new installment.

Even though Jeff Kaplan did not disclose which Hero will have a pet dog in the new game, it has been speculated that the new dog will be a companion to one ofthe Heroes from the first game. What seems to be certain is that the dog Kaplan mentioned is not Orisa’s puppy as he confirmed it would be a new dog.

Jeff Kaplan also commented that there will be a “big dog moment” inOverwatch 2and there is a chance it will be precisely what will make fans fall for this new pet. While this announcement is definitely good news for fans who love dogs, Kaplan’s reveal might not be too exciting for fans who have been waiting for more information on the new game.

Some fans were probably waiting for the announcement of a new Hero, either forOverwatchorOverwatch 2. Although Kaplan has not shared any updates on that front, after this year’s BlizzConfans finally seemed to accept that the reason why the game has not been released yet is that the developers are trying to make it as bulletproof as possible. In the same interview, Jeff Kaplan mentioned that it is better to take a bit longer and test the game properly than to release it and have it debut with bad reviews.

ManyOverwatchfans were probably waiting for more Heroes to be released soon now that it was confirmed thatOverwatch 2will not be released this year. Unfortunately, releasing a new Hero would mean delayingOverwatch 2even more which is why the developers will not be following that strategy to keep users invested. Instead, as it was promised during the BlizzCon,Jeff Kaplan will start sharing more informationwith the fans in the upcoming months.
