Overwatch 2players seem to be convinced that the game hinted at Baptiste’s sexuality. In 2019,Overwatchreleased a short story titled “What You Left Behind"expanding on the Support hero’s backstory, but didn’t blatantly mention whether he was queer or not.

According toOverwatchlore,Baptisteis an ex-Talon operative from Haiti that uses his combat medic abilities to assist his teammates in battle. His Support abilities include Regenerative Burst, which heals himself and his allies; Immortality Field, which prevents allies from dying; and his ultimate Amplification Matrix, which doubles the damage and healing of allied projectiles. He can also jump to higher ground with his passive ability called Exo Boots.

With the addition ofOverwatch 2’s latest Support hero Lifeweaver, the game added in new voice lines to show how he interacts with the others, including Baptiste. In a 14-second video uploaded by Redditor TheNerdyHerb, the two Supports appeared to be sharing a flirty exchange with each other. It started off with Lifeweaver saying he had reservations at a restaurant and was looking for someone to invite. Baptiste excitedly said that he knew a guy, which Lifeweaver asked if it was a “dashing ex-mercenary from the Caribbean.” The former laughed and seemingly confirmed the guess.

ManyOverwatch 2players took this as a confirmation of Baptiste’s sexuality since he seemed to be reciprocating Lifeweaver’s flirtatiousness. Although Blizzard hasn’t outright confirmed Baptiste’s sexuality, it has stated that Lifeweaver is openly pansexual and that it would be reflected in his voice lines and conversations. So, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the latter expressing his interest towards male heroes.

Meanwhile, someOverwatchfans have pointed out that this wasn’t the first time Baptiste’s queerness was portrayed. When “What You Left Behind” came out in 2019, author Alyssa Wong hinted on Twitter that Baptiste and his former colleague Mauga had a special type of relationship. Wong further fueled speculations when she tweeted that she shipped both of them. If it’s true that Baptiste and Mauga didn’t work out, Blizzard might just be brewing up a story with Lifeweaver in the future.

Since the firstOverwatchwas released in 2016, the game didn’t shy away from showcasing LGBTQ+ heroes. The very first one was Tracer, who was confirmed to be a lesbian through a comic. The next was ashort story that confirmed Soldier 76 was gay. The addition of Lifeweaver, and possibly Baptiste, is a step in the right direction as it shows more representation in the game.

Overwatch 2is now available in early access on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
