The month of June has been pretty busy forSonicfans, with SEGA finally giving the first proper look at the upcomingSonic Frontiers. It’s slated to be the franchise’s take on an open-world setting, while also incorporating a set of linear levels that take place in a cyberspace world. This leap in genre has seen the game being compared to Nintendo’sThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, especially withSonic Frontiers' tone and atmosphere. It’s also set to feature a number of gameplay elements that are found in the genre, such as side-quests, a fishing mini-game with Big the Cat, and a set of collectibles.

Some early leaks ofSonic Frontiershad accurately described some of the game’s core features, such as the open-world andBreath of the Wild-esque inspiration. One of these leaks describes a series of collectibles that were very similar to one ofBOTW’s collectibles, the Korok Seeds, withSonic Frontiers' version being called Kocos. A figure promoting the game has recently been revealed, with it also leaking the first look of what these will possibly look like in-game.

ThisSonic Frontierspremium figure from Sega is available as a prize in Japanese Arcades, which show Sonic in an action pose while protecting two figures who are crossed out in black. Fans were able to find a Korean website distributor where it had at least one picture with the characters unmarked, revealing what was hidden. These figures are plant-like in nature, with a leaf and stem sticking out of their heads, though still gray like a stone, with shocked expressions.

These two characters that Sonic is protecting are speculated to be the Kocos that the player will find in the game, which are similar to the aforementioned Korok seeds. This seems to be supported by anotherSonic Frontiers-related leak, where files inSonic Originsdescribe a character known as Kodama, who is an elder, according to the information inside. This figure will be distributed in November, which is also close to the holiday release window.

Based oneverything revealed during June forSonic Frontiers, the Kocos are collectible little creatures that can give Sonic upgraded abilities. Some fans believe that the Kocos can be seen in the gameplay showcases, with some speculating them to be the small stone-like beings found on the map. Other items that players can find in Sonic Frontiersinclude hearts, which are needed to “save” Amy Rose, as well as experience points that can unlock even more skills and upgrades.
