TheNarutofranchise centers itself around its unique abilities, commonly referred to as ‘Jutsu’, which range from trivial powers to all-powerful forbidden techniques. The Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu is one such forbidden technique that primarily revolves around medical ninjutsu, yet its use allows the user to become an unkillable shinobi, making it an offensive technique.

Despite being a forbidden technique, the Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu is Lady Tsunade’s signature jutsu, standing as a testament to her sheer strengthand the title of Hokage. As the name suggests, the jutsu forces the user’s cell division to speed up, which in-turn rapidly heals all wounds and injuries, regardless of the severity. However, the jutsu’s usage comes with a hefty price, hence why it was deemed a forbidden technique. Regardless of the drawback, the jutsu has been dubbed as the ‘pinnacle of medical ninjutsu’, primarily due to its unparalleled healing power.

The Hundred Healings Mark: The Origins of the Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu

A prerequisite for using the Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu is having access to an extensive amount of chakra, something that isn’t possible for any ordinary shinobi. To gain access to such a large chakra pool,Tsunade utilized the Hundred Healings Mark, a Fuinjutsu that involves slowly sealing your chakra in a concentrated spot on one’s body.

Achieving the mark is no ordinary feat, however, as concentrating chakra and sealing it away requires impeccable chakra control. The process takes place over an extended period of time, and it can take several years to develop the seal,as seen in the case of Sakuraand Tsunade. Once activated, the seal releases its stored chakra and spreads all across the user’s body, amplifying the user’s abilities and techniques by several folds.

The seal is linked with the Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu, as naturally possessing the chakra required for stimulating cell division is impossible to achieve. Once the seal is activated, the body has access to enough chakra to consistently regenerate any injury. However, using the regeneration jutsu isn’t the only purpose of the Hundred Healings Mark, as Tsunade also uses the stored chakra to maintain her youthful appearance.

Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu – How Does It Work?

In theory, the workings of the Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu are quite simple, as the technique simply forces the user’s cells to divide rapidly, in-turn negating any injuries the user receives, regardless of the severity of the wounds. Accessing such vast reserves from the one’s own chakra pool would deplete it,essentially killing the user. This makes the Hundred Healings Mark a necessity for the healing technique, as using it would otherwise be impossible for any shinobi.

The jutsu’s unfathomable strength is evident from its ability to regenerate complete tissues and organs, and to restore severed limbs and body parts. As long as the user has access to a large reservoir of chakra, they can never die, granting a sort of immortality for the duration of the jutsu. However, the all-powerful jutsu has its downsides as well, with the primary one being that it can reduce the user’s lifespan. Since cells can only divide a limited number of times, forcibly regenerating them will lower the user’s natural lifespan, leading towards an untimely death.

Users of the Mitotic Regeneration Jutsu

Since the jutsu has been deemed a forbidden technique, not many shinobi can wield its immense power. In the Naruto series, only two shinobi are capable of using the Mitotic Regeneration Jutus; Tsunade and Sakura. Tsunade invented the technique, but she was only able to achieve this impressive feat due to her lineage. Beingthe granddaughter of Hashirama Senjuand Mito Uzumaki, Tsunade had the blood of both Senju and Uzumaki – two clans that are renowned for their immense chakra reservoirs and tenacious lifeforce. However, the main resolve behind inventing the jutsu was her will to protect the lives of her comrades and the Leaf Village.

Being a disciple of Tsunade, Sakura soon learned the technique as well, and that too in a short time span. She was able to acquire the Hundred Healings Mark in just under three years, something that is considered a commendable feat. Acquiring the mark without Uzumaki or Senju blood further exacerbates the achievement – a testament to Sakura’s untapped potential.Tsunade’s other disciple, Shizune, tried to acquire the mark as well, but her chakra control was inadequate to concentrate portions of her chakra in a single point. The difficulty in mastering the technique and the grave side-effects that come with its usage attest to its unfettered power.
