Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pack is finally bringing the highly anticipated anti-hero, Spawn, to the game. While there is a lot to be excited about in terms of new fatalities, his gameplay, costumes, and more, one thing peculiar thing about Spawn which many simply can’t take their eyes off is the beautiful animation of his cape. Though this may seem strange to those that haven’t seen it yet, there really is a lot to love about the smooth movements of Spawn’s cape whether he’s using it as a weapon or just for looks. Spawn’sMortal Kombat 11gameplay trailer has shown a lot already, but fans that purchased the Kombat Pack will gain access to the character tomorrow, March 17th.

For those unaware, Spawn is a popular comic book character created by Todd McFarlane, and tomorrow he will finally be added to the roster ofMortal Kombat 11. Unfortunately, those who did not buy the Kombat Pack and are instead choosing to wait and buy Spawn separately will have to wait until March 24th to play the caped marauder, but even a week’s worth of wait is nothing compared to long wait fans have endured sinceSpawn was first teased forMortal Kombat 11way back in 2018.

Spawn’s Cape in MK 11

AlthoughMK11is full of surprises, very few expected something like Spawn’s cape to be such a big one. One of the first things fans will notice at the start of Spawn’s gameplay trailer as his battle intro plays is the smooth yet gravity-defying flowing of his cape, and it doesn’t end there. Throughout the numerous fights shown in the gameplay trailer, Spawn’s cape seems to follow him effortlessly, is incorporated into his dynamic moveset, and truly gives the impression that it isn’t just a piece of clothing but an actual extension of his body.

The cloak, and the entire suit for that matter, are actually part of asymbiotic organism for which Spawn is the host. This symbiote feeds on the necroplasm which makes up Spawn’s entire body but in return will protect and fight alongside him. This explains why the cape seems to move so well with him rather than getting in the way, and also is the reason that many of Spawn’s moves involve attacking with either the cape or the chains on his belt; every portion of his costume is actually part of a living creature.

Spawn doesn’t hesitate to use this to his advantage, as his combos unfold, his cape swoops in with his fist and flares out before powerful attacks, only to close in again shortly. The use of this and his chain belt will likely make his attacks quite difficult to predict, and it will take some time before players are able to read his diverse moves effectively. Of course, whether it is being used to attack, defend, or conceal, Spawn’s cape always seems to look gorgeous. The element of uncertainty asSpawn covers his victim with the cape during his fatalitymakes it seem all the more gruesome as well.

Fans ofMortal Kombat 11and Spawn alike have a lot to be excited about, as even disregarding Spawn’s mesmerizing animations, he seems like a very unique and deadly character. If the hype surrounding his release is anything to go on, he will see a lot of use following his early release on March 17th and full release on March 24th. Fans have waited a long time for this moment, so it is understandable why anticipation is at an all time high, but it will be interesting to see how Spawn stacks up against other kombatants once players get their hands on him. In the meantime, players should see what otherthings they need to know about Spawn before his release.

Mortal Kombat 11is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One. Spawn releases tomorrow, March 17th.
