Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Could Set Up Marvel’s Wolverine in a Few Different Ways

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2already has its plate crammed full of its own set of villains, protagonists, story, and world-building, which makes it fairly unlikely that there’ll be room for any kind of substantialMarvel’s Wolverineteaseror set-up. That being said, there are a few different ways Insomniac could useSpider-Man 2to teaseWolverine, and not all of them would take much effort, or take the spotlight away from the Spideys for too long.

IfMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is going to teaseWolverine, then the most likely way that’ll happen is by simply confirming or denying a shared universe between the two Marvel games. While there have been brief references toThe Defenders and The Avengersin Insomniac’sSpider-Manuniverse, there hasn’t really been any mention of the X-Men so far, butSpider-Man 2could change that. But while confirming a shared universe is pretty likely forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, it’s the scale of this confirmation that’s really in question.

The most likely form of confirmation of a shared universe would involveMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s collectibles. Though they haven’t been announced yet, it seems likely thatSpider-Man 2will have a bevy of collectibles to find scattered across New York City, and some of these could contain references to the wider Insomniac Marvel universe, including the status of that world’s X-Men. Through these collectibles, and potentially through little lines of character dialogue, Insomniac could carefully start to build out the X-Men’s place in its universe, imply how long they’ve been around, and how the world views them right now. Along with that should come some kind of tease of Wolverine’s whereabouts, and if he’s even a part of the X-Men in this universe.

IfMarvel’s Spider-Man 2wanted to fully embrace this notion of setting upWolverinewithin the game, then the ultimate teaser would be a post-credits scene. Essentially acting asa trailer forMarvel’s Wolverine, this post-credits scene doesn’t need to be long or too involved, but just give fans a hint of the game’s story, and potentially how it connects toSpider-Man’s wider universe and narrative. Of course, post-credits scenes aren’t really anything new for Marvel, and they’re not even new for Insomniac’sSpider-Manseries, with both of the previous games having them. WithMarvel’s Wolverinepresumably up next, it would make sense for a teaser to come right at the end ofSpider-Man 2, though it does admittedly seem a little unlikely.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is out on October 20, exclusively for PS5.
