Avengers: Endgamealmost had a very different ending than what was actually released in theaters. The wildly popularAvengers: Endgamesaw the conclusion of many years of cinematic storytelling.

The Avengersthat fans have come to know and love have defended the world from the threat of the mad titan Thanos. InAvengers: Infinity War,Thanos wanted to see the world reducedto about half of its population in order to save all of existence. After pitching his idea to his homeworld, they rejected his plan and eventually went extinct, which made him one of the last of his people.

Although Thanos was successful in erasing half of the population in the universe by the end ofInfinity War,Avengers: Endgameconcluded with the superhero team reversing the Mad Titan’s decimation and vanquishing him and his army, though not without Black Widow and Iron Man sacrificing themselves. However, Kevin Feige originally had a pitch forEndgamethat was compared toToy Story 3. In the book titledThe Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe,Endgameco-director Joe Russo said that Feige’s vision was for the six original Avengers to metaphorically “‘jump into a furnace together.'”

The Russo brothers’ disagreement was that there wasn’t enough time in the story to celebrate each and every one of the members before they left. So for fans, it would be harder for them to walk out of theaters satisfied or able to move on.TheAvengers: Endgameconclusionfans ended up getting was essentially the end of the original group. The death toll wasn’t nearly as high, but the members definitely went their own way. Now is the time for a new group to step up to the plate, it’s time for a new age of heroes and a new group of storylines as Marvel Studios brings in the next level of villains to its ever-growing world.

The way Marvel Studios handledits lead-up to the climacticAvengersfilmwas a very special case. Hopefully, the next group of movies is able to accomplish the same task when they drop their releases over the course of the next few years. These films will decide the direction that Marvel Studios takes itself in terms of storytelling and overall direction.

Many have a wish for the superhero genre to continue. Others are expecting it to end at any point in a similar way to the ‘western movie phase’ that Hollywood experienced. If these movies continue on the route they’re going, then fans won’t have to wait much longer for the continued success of these films.

Avengers: Endgameis now available on Disney Plus.
