Hollow Knight Fans Need a Solid Update

Although it’s important that developers take their time when it comes to making games, it’s been over a year since the last major update, which is making some fans pretty antsy about the current state of the game. There was even an incident earlier this year whenthe website domain forHollow Knight: Silksongaccidentally expired, which only fueled rumors that the game was stuck in development purgatory.Hollow Knight: Silksong’s future has now been left to speculation, and that’s not a good spot for developers to be in when it comes to in-progress games.

After the game missed its early 2023 deadline, Team Cherry’s PR and Marketing spokesperson Matthew Griffin gave a smallupdate on the status ofHollow Knight: Silksong, stating that the game was originally slated for an early 2023 release, but due to the expansive size of the title, it had to be pushed back. Games being delayed is nothing new, but there currently hasn’t been any new release date given to fans, and this has caused some frustration for those who have been patiently waiting for more information. If a date can’t be pinned down, news on a targeted release window would be a better update than nothing.

However, this silence could also mean Team Cherry is looking toshadow-dropHollow Knight: Silksongwhen fans least expect it. The lack of updates and news could possibly be a strategic move on Team Cherry’s part. Although a surprise release would be great, that doesn’t mean regular updates should be left to the wayside. Another gameplay demo or some sort of presentation on what will setHollow Knight: Silksongapart from the first game would help satiate fans.

There are plenty of games in the past that were in development limbo for far longer and eventually launched, likeDead Island 2, but withHollow Knight: Silksonggetting an announcement trailer in 2019 and then a gameplay demo last year in 2022, it’s strange that there hasn’t been any more news when previous updates implied that the game had a decent amount of work finished. With no word from Team Cherry on when a new release is expected, many are nowhoping 2024 is the yearHollow Knight: SIlksongfinally launches. Although this seems like the more likely release window, it is still pure speculation, and that is incredibly frustrating for the many fans who have been waiting to know the game’s status. Delays are understandable and often necessary for a game to be as great as possible, but regular updates to keep fans aware and informed will help them stay engaged and hopeful aboutHollow Knight: Silksong’s future.
