House of the Dragonseason 2has yet to begin filming, but fans can expect to wait a while before the sophomore season drops. According to Ewan Mitchell, who portrays Aemond Targaryen, filming for the second season is expected to take eight months.
House of the Dragondebuted earlier this year to rave reviews. Season 1 concluded with the Dance of the Dragons - the civil war between King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) - officially kicking off. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the saga, andHouse of the Dragonseason 2 casting rumorsare already running hot.

In a 2022 interview withThe Face, Mitchell stated that he’s currently prepping for shooting next year. “We’re going to be shooting for eight months next year [2023]. We’re in the preparation phase of that now, which is why I’ve got my hair buzzed off, for the wig fittings.” Mitchell also talked about what’s next forHouse of the Dragon’s Aemond Targaryen, saying, “If season one was about seeing Aemond getting warmed up, season two is all-out war.”
Mitchell likened Aemond’s claim of the dragon Vhagar to the mythical Cyclops, who traded an eye to Hades to see the day he would die. The situation makes Aemond feel incredibly self-certain and bulletproof. Though Mitchell said Aemond is no seer, he said the character is “scary perceptive.”
Now that his brother has ascended tothe title of King Aegon II, Aemond will serve as a vital part of his war effort. The Greens are outmanned; their only advantage is that they have the largest dragon alive. If they didn’t have Vhagar at their command (and even the certainty of using Vhagar is in question, given what occurred in the season finale), then they’ll be severely lacking when it comes time to face Rhaenyra in battle.
There are manynew characters to introduce inHouse of the Dragonseason 2,several of whom will feature heavily in Aemond’s plot line. Aemond has a lot to offer the series, and as the deadliest member of the Greens, fans can probably expect to see him stick around for most of the series (or at least the arc that focuses on the Dance of the Dragons). Mitchell’s words seemingly confirm that his character will be a key player inHouse of the Dragonseason 2.
