Thanks to the September 2020 issue of Offical PlayStation magazine, however, gamers now definitively know every region inHorizon Forbidden West. The confirmation may also settle a debate about the identity of a specific area shown off in theHorizon Forbidden Westtrailer.

According to the magazine,Horizon Forbidden West’s setting will take place between Utah and the Pacific Ocean, meaning Aloy will find herself journeying through Nevada and California and possibly through a small portion of Utah. TheForbidden Westtrailer focused on Aloy’s time exploring the Yosemite Valley, the Palace of Fine Arts, and the Ferry Building, but it may have also shown her in a particular area of Nevada as well.
Some fans believe that theForbidden Westtrailer shows Aloy in Chinatown, as she comes across a sign in the sand that causes her Focus to show her a holographic dragon. However, it’s more likely thatAloy experiences this event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Aloy finds the sign buried in sand, which is a stark contrast to the flooded and forested environments she explores in California. Alongside the trailer,Horizon Forbidden Westscreenshotsalso show Aloy exploring a vast desert. It’s possible Nevada ended up buried after the time of the Old Ones ended.
Horizon Forbidden West’s settinglooks like it’ll play a bigger role in the game thanHorizon Zero Dawn’s. The game’s story seemingly centers around the setting being negatively affected by the red blight, which seems to cause supercell storms to appear.
The map also sounds like it will be bigger thanHorizon Zero Dawn’s. There are areas in the game that are hundreds of miles from each other such as a Yosemite Valley and San Fransico. Mathijs de Jonge did say thatPlayStation 5offered Guerilla Games a lot more power to work with than the PlayStation 4, and the development team is clearly putting the extra horsepower to use.
