Warning: Major spoilers ahead for God of War Ragnarok.Prior to the release ofRagnarok, fewGod of Warfans would have predicted the importance of Sindri to the overall narrative. With the loss of Brok andthe death of Odincoming at the hands of the once-gentle dwarf, though, Santa Monica ensured that there were many memorable moments involving the character. Considering how things end up for Sindri, his story may not be finished yet, either.
The newerGod of Wargames consistently dive into the topic of revenge and how it does not solve anything, with Kratos himself growing beyond it and Freya doing the same. Unfortunately, Sindri serves as an example of revenge completely corrupting someone, as Brok’s funeral shows that killing Odin has not made Sindri feel any better. With Sindri still grieving and refusing to show Kratos any kindness, he may end up becoming an enemy down the road - with Atreus in particular being his target.

Sindri Could Be The Opening Boss in an Atreus Spin-Off
Though Santa Monica has not shared its plans forthe future of theGod of Warfranchise, an Atreus spin-off seems like a natural direction to go in. Kratos’ son has left his side and gone off on his own adventure to rescue the Giants, and this journey could take him to never-before-seen lands with new gods to battle. However, before Atreus can fully embark on his journey, he could be chased down by Sindri, with the dwarf continuing to put the blame on Atreus and wanting him to suffer for what happened to Brok.
Both games inthe NorseGod of Warsagahad amazing boss fights within their first hour, with many considering them to be high points in each game. While a cinematic chase sequence like the one with Freya could happen early on in place of a battle, a proper fight with Sindri seems inevitable, and with Atreus being shorter Sindri would come off as a bit more intimidating than he would against Kratos. Not only could the fight be flashy like the Baldur and Thor battles, but it could have some added emotion behind it since players care about Sindri and do not want to fight him.
What makes Sindri such a threat is his ability to teleport at will, and he could use this to great effect during the boss fight. Whenever Atreus gets the upper hand, Sindri can sneak up behind him or teleport to attack from a distance, resulting in a ranged section where Atreus has to make good use of his bow. Sindri could toss items from his magic bag at Atreus during the fight, wielding his smithing tools for melee attacks like he did duringthe final battle of Ragnarok. He could also forge a weapon specifically designed to combat Atreus, showing how determined he is to bring him down.
A fight with Sindri could end in two ways, both of which would be impactful. The first option is that Sindri refuses to stop, likeHeimdall, forcing Atreus to put him out of his misery. Killing Sindri would be incredibly tragic, and it could add an element of sadness to what could otherwise be a lighthearted story focused on the adventurous Atreus. Alternatively, Atreus sparing Sindri could force him to realize that Atreus was not truly to blame for what happened to Brok, and the two could reconcile like Freya and Kratos. From there, Sindri could slowly warm up to Atreus again and refind his purpose by forging his gear.
Whether it ends in tragedy or peace, a fight with Sindri would be worthwhile from a gameplay and narrative perspective. Though Santa Monica could end his story withGod of War Ragnarok, leaving things on a sad note and sending Sindri into a quiet retirement, more can be done with the character. IfAtreus gets his own game, it would be the perfect place to deliver a payoff to his conflict with Sindri, as it is Atreus who Sindri truly has a problem with. With Sindri’s magic bag and teleportation being perfect abilities for a boss, the fight could be as fun as it is impactful.
