Square Enix has officially announced the release date for the console versions ofFinal Fantasy Pixel Remaster. While the collection has been out on Steam and mobile devices for over a year, Square Enix announced a few months ago that the collection, which features the first six games in theFinal Fantasyseries, will be ported to PS4 and Switch this spring.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remasterwas first released in waves starting in the summer of 2021, starting with the first three games in theFinal Fantasyseries. A few months later,Final Fantasy 4andFinal Fantasy 5were released for the collection, whileFinal Fantasy 6was not released until February 2022 in order to give gamers the best experience possible. Thoughconsole ports ofFinal Fantasy Pixel Remasterwere not announced until over a year after their initial release, Square Enix remained hesitant to offer a definitive release date at first. However, with spring now underway, the long-awaited console ports will be in the hands of gamers soon.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remasterfor PS4 and Switch will be released on Wednesday, April 19. In addition to the games receiving ports,Final Fantasy Pixel Remasterwill feature a new pixel-style font for players to use. The UI and font were points ofcriticism againstFinal Fantasy Pixel Remaster, though modders found workarounds for the Steam version’s fonts. Players will also have new options to boost the experience points they gain in battle and turn off random encounters. A bundle containing all six games will retail for $74.99, with individual games priced between $11.99 and $17.99 apiece. Preorders forFinal Fantasy Pixel Remasterare now available on the Nintendo eShop, while the PlayStation Store will take orders at a later date.

In addition, players will be able to freely change the music between the remastered soundtracks and the original soundtracks for each game, as originally composed byFinal Fantasyseries legend Nobuo Uematsu in the NES and SNES eras. Uematsu was also credited as a supervisor for the remastered soundtracks. While the remastered soundtrack containedvocals forFinal Fantasy 6’s famous opera scene, it remains to be seen if they will be reverted to their original synthesized vocals when the SNES soundtrack is active.

Finally, fans will be pleased to know thatthe opening credits forFinal Fantasy 6will return, after being omitted from the remasters. However, it is not known at the time of writing if any of the changes for the console ports will also be included in the Steam and mobile versions via a future update. All in all, fans of theFinal Fantasyseries will have more ways to play the first six games in the series very soon.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remasteris available now for Android, iOS, and PC, with an April 19 launch for PS4 and Switch.
