Capcom’sDragon’s Dogma 2features a number of weapon types for players to hack, slash, and shoot opponents with, each one suited to a different kind of playstyle. Magick-focused characters use the Mage staff, or the Sorcerer archistaff, to deal devastating Magickal attacks to enemies.

When starting out with a fresh new character, options for weapons are limited. However, even in the early game, some are much better than others and offer much nicer bonuses.

TheSuperior Wooden Staffis a wonderful choice of weapon for the early game inDragon’s Dogma 2,but it suffers by being a pre-order bonus. But it’s a straight upgrade to the Wooden Staff Mage that players start off with, making it the superior choice for tackling the game’s early quests and exploration.

Anchor to Heaven

The first upgrade to the starting Mage vocation weapon, theIronclad Staff, is a great choice of weapon for tackling the very first zone of the game’s map. Offering a straight upgrade in terms of stats to the basic Mage staff, the Ironclad Staff is only a little bit heavier. This isn’t a fantastic weapon, but it’s a great upgrade for the early game and will provide a little bit of extra power in those starting hours.

TheFavored Floweris the best weapon for the Mage vocation that is available in the earliest part of the game. Lighter than the Ironclad Staff, the Favored Flower is an excellent choice for the curious adventurer. Featuring a boost to Magick power, Favored Flower is a great pick to add that extra bit of pizzazz to any Mage’s spells.

The first weapon available for the Sorcerer vocation,Grievous Hornsis a powerful archistaff well-suited to an offensive spellcaster. This is literally a must-have weapon for any Arisen wanting to become a Sorcerer, as it’s a pre-requisite for even unlocking the vocation. Although there are better archistaves available at this point in the game, Grievous Horns is the perfect option for the frugal Arisen, thanks to being free.

Anchor to Heavenis a fantastic upgrade to the Ironclad Staff or even Favored Flower, featuring an amazing boost to Magick for even more powerful spells. Featuring a fun nautical design, Anchor to Heaven is a great choice of weapon early in the game, especially when money is a concern.

TheMeniscusis a great mid-weight weapon for Sorceror characters at the start of the game. This isn’t quite as powerful as some, but its reasonable price is a point in its favor. It’s an excellent weapon for the frugal Arisen, and its good stats are sure to give a nice boost to any Sorceror.

This very powerful (and expensive) archistaff is available in the game’s first major city, Vernworth.Unfettered Clawis a great option for characters with a bit of extra money who have just swapped into the Sorcerer vocation. The weapon has great stats, is readily available, and doesn’t cost the moon.

Cast Stoneis a great option for characters with the Mage vocation. It’s a little pricey at 20,500G, but its stats are fantastic. It’s easily available thanks to being purchasable from a vendor in the Chekpoint Rest Town, which is accessible early on through the oxcart travel system. It’s a good, if expensive, choice.

Plucked Heartis a great weapon for sorcerers, easily the best available in the early game. Featuring extremely powerful stats including massive Strength and Magick scores, Plucked Heart is a weapon to aspire to. But thanks to all its good qualities, it’s pricey, especially for an early-game character. 25,000G can be hard to accrue at the start of the game, especially if players don’t knowwhat to sell and what not to. But Plucked Heart has good availability thanks to being purchasable, and the Checkpoint Rest Town is only a 200G oxcart ride away from Vernworth.

Goblin Baneis the best Mage staff available at the start of the game. It’s also the most expensive. But it gives a fantastic boost to all the right stats, including a hefty Magick upgrade, so it’s worth shelling out the 25000G for it. The Checkpoint Rest Town is quite far across the map, but it’s easily reachable using the oxcart travel system right from Vernworth.
