Given how long thePokemonbrand has lasted, interesting hundreds of new creatures to the wide roster since the original 151, it seems like there will never be an end of ideas for new monsters and their evolutions. In that vein, some fans enjoy seeing how they can expand the roster themselves, with some of the most popular additions having to do with the multiple evolution paths ofPokemon’s most customizable creature Eevee.
The most recent of these fan artists, RJ Palmer, to reimagine different ways for Eevee to evolve has quite the impressive portfolio when it comes toPokemonart, considering that he previously worked as a concept artist on theDetective Pikachumovie. Additionally, many of his realistic Pokemon pieces have garnered quite a bit of attention online outside of the official work done for the brand.

This latest selection of designs take a more traditional approach with a style more reminiscent of thePokemonanime, showing what some of the other types Eevee could evolve into might look like. While the current Eevee found in the games and accompanying show already has the ability to evolve into several different types like water, fire, and even fairy, there are still a few types missing from the list. So, RJ Palmer’s newest pieces show what it might look like if Eevee was transformed in the way befitting the flying, dragon, bug, and garf types.
Now, fans scouringPokemon’s most recently updated Pokedexor the Bulbapedia might have noticed that RJ Palmer seems to have introduced an entirely new type into the list at the end there. The so-called “garf” type is a bit of a gag entry, inspired by the Garfield comics, which the artist has gone so far as to render a shiny version of with grey fur instead of orange. While this Garfeon might not quite be a legitimate entry, the flying-type Griffeon, dragon-type Drageon, and bug-type Bumbleon fit in nicely with the established Pokemon types and the styles often given to Eevee’s other evolutions.
Considering that there never seems to be a shortage of designs to keep expanding theroster inPokemon, it isn’t exactly a mystery why artists so often lend their creativity into making their own creatures to inhabit the world. Combine this with the fact that Eevee’s evolutions have also been expanding with each new generation, and works like RJ Palmer’s have become somewhat of a norm for fans of the series. Hopefully fans will get the chance to see Eevee branch out into even more types with future evolutions, but until then fan projects can create incredible concepts for what could be.
