Summary
TheDestinyfranchise has been around for ten years now, which is why the arrival ofDestiny 2’s Final Shape expansion has been fueled by unprecedented anticipation. As the culmination of a decade-long story,Destiny 2’s Final Shape expansion sees the series' Light and Darkness Saga come to an end, along with bringing plenty of new content to the table for players to enjoy. Apart from the story, players gain access to a plethora of other gameplay content in The Final Shape, including the new Prismatic subclass and some new Exotic weapons and armor to boot. One Exotic weapon, in particular, is obtainable once players finish the campaign, and it seems to be a strong opponent forDestiny’s most iconic weapon.
Since the first year ofDestiny, players have widely recognized theGjallarhorn rocket launcheras the series' most iconic weapon. This is largely due to how incredibly powerful it was in the first game and the fact that Xur sold it within the first couple of weeks ofDestiny’s life. It quickly achieved meme status after that and is still one of the most powerful weapons in the firstDestiny’s arsenal. However,Destiny 2’s Final Shape expansion has introduced the Ergo Sum Exotic sword, which may be enough to have the Gjallarhorn step aside.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape’s Ergo Sum Is Strong Competition for the Gjallarhorn
Destiny 2: The Final Shape’s Ergo Sum Is the First Exotic Sword of Its Kind
There are several things about the new Ergo Sum Exotic that make it special. First of all, it is the firstExotic sword inDestiny 2to use Special ammo rather than Heavy. This means it is potentially much easier to keep its ammo stocked, as Special ammo tends to drop more frequently than Heavy. That being said, its Transcendent Duelist trait forces it to collect less ammo. Secondly, the Ergo Sum is unlike otherDestiny 2Exotic weapons due to its ability to drop with random elemental affinities, frames, perks, and traits. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the Ergo Sum can share perks with other Exotic weapons inDestiny 2, and herein lies what makes it strong competition for the acclaimed Gjallarhorn rocket launcher.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape’s Ergo Sum Exotic Can Roll Like a Gjallarhorn
Ergo Sum can drop with the perks of several otherExotic weapons inDestiny 2, and included in that list is the Gjallarhorn’s Wolfpack Rounds intrinsic trait. On the Gjallarhorn, Wolfpack Rounds causes rounds fired to split into tracking cluster missiles upon detonation. This is combined with its Pack Hunter perk, which grants Wolfpack Rounds to allies wielding non-Exotic rocket launchers when the Gjallarhorn is fired.
The Ergo Sum takes theGjallarhorn’s Wolfpack Rounds traitand Pack Hunter perk and combines them to form its own adapted version of the Wolfpack Rounds trait, in which powered heavy attacks with the sword grant cluster missiles to sword-wielding allies. This is especially powerful considering the Ergo Sum doesn’t specify that allies must have non-Exotic swords, so a fireteam could essentially all have a Wolfpack Rounds Ergo Sum equipped to grant cluster missiles to the entire team.
The Ergo Sum is already one of the most powerful Exotic weapons inDestiny 2’s Final Shape expansion, simply due to its ability to use Special ammo and drop with random rolls. This means players will be able to farm the Exotic sword until they find the roll they want, which alone is enough to set it apart from almost every Exotic available inDestiny 2. Add on top of that the ability for it to essentially roll like a Gjallarhorn,Destiny 2’s most iconic weapon, and Ergo Sum becomes one of the game’s latest must-have weapons.
