Devil May Cryis getting an anime-style adaptation from the same studio and producer (Adi Shankar) that brought theCastlevaniaseries to Netflix. The story ofDevil May Crycenters on Dante, a demon hunter who is also half-demon and half-human.
Devil May Cryis a very popular video game franchise that’s known for having stylish combos, action-packed sequences, hair flips, and big monsters. Dante initially struggled with accepting his demon side, while his twin brother felt the opposite and resented his own human side. It made for compelling storytelling that fans have followed through the fiveDevil May Crymainline titlesalong with the additional soft reboot spin-off game.

During an interview with IGN, Shankar offered an update on the status of thenewDevil May Cryanime series. The producer said that the scripts for the first 8 episodes are all done and turned in. In fact, the first season will only be a total of eight episodes. Shankar also went on to say that this will be a “multi-season” story just likeCastlevania, so fans shouldn’t be surprised if they see multiple season renewals for the show.
As far as a release date, fans are going to have to wait a little longer before they get that information. Plus, there is also no telling how often seasons will release. It’s safe to assume that the following seasons are being written since Shankar already plans for them to happen, so all fans have to do is wait for the green light.
A show likeDevil May Cryrequires a great deal of time to animate because the franchise is primarily known for its action scenes. Dante is known for fighting his enemies in a stylish and bragging way. For those who don’t know, think ofSpider-Manfight scenes and how the web-slinger is constantly flipping around his foes, making them look stupid while hurling insults at them. SomethingtheDevil May Cryshowcan do is to seriously flesh out the story since it would be nice if fans were given something of substance that they can take seriously.
Castlevaniadid very well with fansand critics when it debuted on Netflix. The show was animated in an almost anime-inspired art style, displaying gore and combat in a way that was meant to emulate the darkness of the game series.Castlevaniadid a good job at bringing the core elements from the video games into the television series, soDevil May Crywill hopefully do the same when it releases on Netflix.
