10343 Guilty Spark – Halo 3

343 Guilty Spark was in the originalHalo: Combat Evolvedand may have seemed like an ally for a time. However, 343 Guilty Spark was created for a reason, and that reason was to activate the ring and destroy all sentient life in the eternal battle against the Flood.

Although 343 Guilty Spark may seem like a friendlyAI like Cortana, he’s quite the villainous little robot. InHalo 3, Guilty Spark kills Sgt. Johnson, and the Arbiter and Master Chief are forced to fight Guilty Spark to save the universe.

9Dominus Ghaul – Destiny 2

When players made their way intoDestiny 2, they were faced against the might of the Cabal empire, led by Dominus Ghaul. Dominus led a siege against the Last City, captured The Speaker, destroyed the Tower, and severed the Guardians’ connection to the Light by placing the Traveler in a containment device.

Dominus Ghaul was a true threat and truly challenged the players ofDestiny2with his ruthless and cunning tactics. Ghaul’s personality makes for a great villain, as his hatred and jealousy of Guardians truly show in his rage against the galaxy.

8Tartarus – Halo 2

InHalo 2, players were faced with enemies of old and new. These new villains served in the Covenant and were of the Jiralhanae species. Tartarus was the Chieftan of his species and quickly became a rival to the Arbiter.

Tartarus was a great threat inHalo2and was theleader of the Covenant’s military.Tartarus was ruthless, and his hatred for others ran deep. He was a great challenge in the final boss fight, and as Chieftan of the Brutes, he has quite the role on his hands.

7Eramis – Destiny 2

Eramis was the antagonist introduced in theDestiny2Beyond Lightexpansion, and she brought forth new challenges and a new subclass for players. Eramis was a tease of what was to come of the Darkness, and her use of Stasis from The Witness and the Black Fleet makes her a challenging antagonist, one that still has an unfolding story in the narrative ofDestiny2.

As the Kell of Darkness, Eramis leads an army of Fallen, attempting to bring the Eliksni people back into the Light, whilst a resentment towards the Traveller holds a grief-stricken and rageful grip on her motivations against Guardians and those that oppose her. Unluckily for her, Guardians have thebest rocket launchers, and can make quick work of Eramis.

6Prophet Of Regret – Halo 2

The Prophet of Regret shines as a villain inHalo2. As the youngest of the High Prophets, the Prophet of Regret has much to prove, especially amid the Human-Covenant war that has been laying siege to the galaxy for years.

What makes the Prophet of Regret stand out amongst the other Prophets is his personality. This Prophet is ambitious, yet in that ambition comes an immaturity, and a rash nature that could lead to the potential for the Covenant.

5Emperor Calus – Destiny 2

After the defeat of Dominus Ghaul, a new Cabal threat emerges in the solar system. The Leviathan arrived, and on board, was the exiled Emperor of the Cabal, Calus. Calus is perhaps one of the most interesting characters inDestiny2 and quickly becomes a defining villain, with years of build-up to the final confrontation seen inDestiny2’s latest expansion,Lightfall. Calus' love for gold and decor might resonate with some Guardians that usethe best shaders inDestiny 2.

Emperor Calus began to test the Guardians on board the Leviathan, seeing the worth and power to question their worth in the coming battle with the Darkness. In gluttony and desperation to be the last living being, Calus gave himself as a Disciple to the Witness and his Shadow Legion still lay siege across the solar system.

4Gravemind – Halo 3

Within the life cycle of the Flood, the final stage exists in the Gravemind. This near-omniscient being has complete control over the Flood as their hivemind. The Gravemind isgrotesque in designand harbors a great hatred for life that does not spread as the Flood, a true horror that grows stronger inHalo3.

The Gravemind is not only obsessed with turning all life into the Flood, but it is a great manipulator that only sees people as tools for his use. The Gravemind has grand power and a high level of intellect, making it a true threat to the universe.

3Savathûn, The Witch Queen – Destiny 2

As a Hive god, Savathûn has many titles, but she is aware of how boring these titles make her. Instead, Savathûn is known mainly as The Witch Queen, driven by her cunning, deception, and unfathomable schemes that bring forth confusion to those that try and get in her way.

Savathûn is a manipulator, and her motives are dangerous due to their mystery. Savathûn may be trying to help the Traveller thanks to its great gift of life and Ghosts. Savathûn’s story is yet to be over, as even in her death newsecrets and dungeons are revealed.

2Oryx, The Taken King – Destiny

Another god of the Hive, Oryx has mastered the Taken, and with it, brings Darkness and siege upon the solar system. Oryx came forth in vengeance after the death of his son, Crota, and brings forth a new war inDestinywith his gigantic ship the Dreadnaught. Oryx was the direct antagonist in the Taken War.

Oryx challenged players with his Hive and Taken soldiers, but was ultimately defeated during the King’s Fall raid, which required 6 Guardians with high skill and tactics. Oryx may be dead, but there’s an ongoing mystery surrounding who now puppeteers the Taken.

1The Witness – Destiny 2

After years of unknowing, the embodiment and commander of Darkness revealed itself as The Witness. This being of immense and ultimate power has pursued the Traveller for eons, leaving suffering in its wake. The Witness’s goals are yet to be revealed, but they all relate to The Final Shape, and hopefully some more of thebest exotics to loot.

Spanning journeys of stars, The Witness has recruited many species and collected many artifacts of mysterious design. Although players have yet to battle The Witness, they have been challenged by its power in the form of the Black Fleet and the Disciples, followers of the Witness’ teachings.
