Movies that can be rented or bought on Amazon Prime Video will also be included.
10Sonic The Hedgehog
Films based on video game franchises can often be a mixed bag. However, 2020’sSonic the Hedgehogis a good example of an adaptation done right. Ben Schwartz, known for playing the eccentric Jean-Ralphio fromParks & Recreation, voices the blue blur, breathing new life into the iconic character.
Fans of the franchise will find a lot to love in this super-powered interpretation of the character. It’s also a great watch for families, as parents may be charmed by Jim Carrey’s magnetic performance as Doctor Robotnik. Overall, it’s a great watch for fans who want to see Schwartz’s charismatic hedgehog kick some robot butt.

9Shazam!
DC’s filmography can often come across as dark and brooding. Titles likeMan of SteelandThe Dark Knightmay be unappealing to those looking for a fun superhero adventure. In that case,Shazam!might be the film to watch, as it’s available to rent on Amazon Prime Video for only $3.99, and is one of DC’s lighter films.

The film stars Zachary Levi as the adult superhero form of Billy Batson, who becomes the champion of an ancient wizard. It’s a very fun superhero romp, not dissimilar in tone to Marvel’sDeadpoolmovies, albeit with a PG-13 rating. Plus, Levi gives an incredibly hilarious performance as a kid in the body of an adult man.
8Megamind
The early 2010s were an incredible time for animation, especially for a company like DreamWorks.Megamindis one of their most underrated films, starring Will Ferrell as a supervillain who unexpectedly defeats his arch-nemesis,Metro Man, voiced by Brad Pitt. It’s a great, subversive take on classic superhero tropes.
While it can be hard at first to root for someone as dastardly evil as Megamind, audiences will be surprised by how empathetic they can feel for him. That’s especially true when Jonah Hill’s Titan joins the mix as a superhero created to replace Metro Man. It’s a wonderfully-written script disguised as a goofy, animated kids film.

7Unbreakable
Not all superhero fans may be looking for a light, animated comedy on Amazon Prime Video. Some prefer the darker, more twisted take on superhero stories. One such example of this is M. Night Shyamalan’sUnbreakable, released in 2000 and starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson.
Unbreakablehas seen a revival in popularity in recent years following Shyamalan’s two sequels:SplitandGlass. In this first entry, though,Willis plays a man who recovers from a car accidentonly to discover he has superpowers. The film has since gone on to be considered one of the best superhero films of all time.

6Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn)
2016’sSuicide Squadwas a let-down to many comic book fans, but if that film did one thing right, it was casting Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Robbie gets to reprise her role on her own terms inBirds of Prey. The film follows Harley Quinn after her devastating break-up with the Joker, leading her to a crisis of identity.

Not only isBirds of Preyan expertly-written superhero comedy, but it’s also a fantastic break-up film. Teaming up with fellow femme fatales like The Huntress and Black Canary, it’s a perfect watch for those who need a pick-me-up after a relationship gone bad. Hopefully, those people’s exes aren’t the Joker.
5Guardians Of The Galaxy
James Gunn has put in the work to redefine the superhero film genre. He followed upBirds of Preywith a new-and-improvedThe Suicide Squad, but his real masterpiece isGuardians of the Galaxy. This Marvel Cinematic Universe film took an obscure intergalactic team from the comics and turned them into household names.
Only James Gunn could createsuch lovable criminals in the titular team. Before this, Chris Pratt was mainly recognized for his work inParks & Recreation, but here he owns the screen as the sarcastic Star-Lord. Plus, who doesn’t get emotional at the film’s climax, with Vin Diesel’s iconic line: “Weare Groot.”

4Logan
Of course, not every Marvel movie is as heartwarming asGuardians of the Galaxy. Outside the confines of the MCU, other filmmakers have taken pretty bold approaches to some of Marvel’s most iconic characters. That’s definitely the case withLogan, which was created as a farewell for Hugh Jackman’s role as Wolverine.
This film is a lot darker andmore grounded in reality than any of the previousX-Menfilms. Jackman plays an aged Logan, who is convinced by an elderly Charles Xavier to take care of his mutant daughter, Laura. It’s surprisingly ambitious in how it treats the superhero genre, even going as far as mocking the comic books.

3Black Panther
There’s a good reason why audiences flocked to seeBlack Pantherin theaters in 2018. A mainstream MCU film with a predominately black cast had hardly been seen at that time. It’s a good thing that this film also happened to be emotionally deep, epic, and a shining example that Marvel films weren’t just amusement park rides.

Of course, one can’t talk aboutBlack Pantherwithout thinking of the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman. Boseman does an excellent job leading this film as T’Challa and imbuing the iconic comic book character with heart and authority. Hopefully, the sequel will be able to stand up to its predecessor without its biggest star.
2The Incredibles
When it comes to storytelling, Pixar is unrivaled in its emotional precision and coherence. It’s no surprise that their attempt at a superhero film,The Incredibles, is both original and heartfelt. The film focuses on a family of superheroes, who struggle to balance living normal lives with the desire to fight crime and wear spandex.
The Incrediblesis one of Pixar’s most iconic films. Its sequel,The Incredibles II, was long overdue, but worth the wait as it lives up to its predecessor. Both of these excellent films are available on Amazon Prime Video to rent, which makes for a cheap double feature for those who want the fullIncrediblesexperience in one night.

1Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
TheSpider-Manfranchise has seen many interpretations over the years. However, the Phil Lord-ledSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseis the most original take yet. Besides the fact that the film’s animation is a bold tribute to comic book art styles over the years, it also featuresone of the most excitingSpider-Manstories in some time.
The film follows Miles Morales, a teenager who finds himself bitten by a mutated spider and inheriting the powers of Spider-Man. However, Morales finds himself encountering many equivalent heroes throughout the multiverse. This leads to great chemistry between Miles, the jaded Peter Parker, and the sarcastic Gwen Stacy.
