Summary
In light of a recent social media backlash following the latest patch release forBaldur’s Gate 3, a representative of Larian Studios has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to address the game’s modding community directly. The tweet also gives fans a glimpse of something big coming toBaldur’s Gate 3later this year.
Baldur’s Gate 3has a thriving modding community, with dedicated fans creating additions to the game both blessed and cursed, covering everything from characters' appearances to subclasses to clothing to weapons. Following the release ofBaldur’s Gate 3Patch 6 and its subsequent hotfixes in quick succession, many mod creators took to social media to declare that they just couldn’t keep up.

While sharing the announcement forBaldur’s Gate 3Hotfix 19, director of publishing Michael Douse spoke directly to players and modders. The tweet expressed Larian Studios' love for theBaldur’s Gate 3modding communityand announced that Larian is working to bring “robust” mod support to the game for PC and consoles. Though it’s unknown when exactly this support will be added, fans can expect it to go into effect sometime later this year. In a follow-up to the original tweet, he then posted that Larian has a system they plan to use to implement the cross-platform support, however it still needs to be tested and isn’t yet finished.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Discusses Mod Support
This announcement is an exciting one for theBaldur’s Gate 3fanbase, but is especially welcome to its mod creators, who have had trouble staying up to date with the game’s rollout of patches and hotfixes. Eachupdate released by Larian Studioscan cause the game to become incompatible with mods already in use byBaldur’s Gate 3players, rendering them unable to play modded campaigns until the mod is updated by its creator. Mod support would mean less catching-up to do for creators upon an update’s release, and therefore less downtime for players using mods.
Larian Studios' responsiveness to its modding community’s concerns is a good example of whyBaldur’s Gate 3snagged Best Community Supportat The Game Awards 2023. Though the company has touched on the possibility of an eventualBaldur’s Gate 3DLC, for the time being players will have to make do with whatever new content Larian plans to release in the game’s upcoming patches. Of course, where those fail, the modding community is never far behind with a steady stream of stuff players didn’t know they needed.
