AlthoughAssassin’s Creed Valhallawas revealed just a few days ago, its premise and historical concept has been known for quite a while longer. Despite titles, features, and more being just basic rumors with little-to-no proof, the fact that it was based on Vikings was highly corroborated and became the basis of the plethora ofAssassin’s Creed Valhallarumorsand so called leaks. And this all goes back toDivision 2.
Shortly after its release, fans discovered anAssassin’s Creed ValhallaEaster egg inDivision 2. It was a poster that showcased a Viking holding an apple of Eden and bore the words Valhalla across it. And while this seems like a direct correlation, it’s a coincidence, according to narrative director Darby McDevitt.

Speaking in an interview with Stevivor, Mcdevitt confirms “that was a complete coincidence.” He would go on to explain that it had nothing to do withAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, which he doesn’t think had a proper name at the time, and it only exists because “The Divisionis made in Sweden…they just wanted to put in some of theirNordic culture. It had nothing to do with us.” That’s honestly surprising see as how it brought the game into the open air, with the Viking setting being highly corroborated thereafter and as a direct result of thisDivision 2teaser.
McDevitt isn’t sure if the team knew it got it right before the official reveal, but as pointed out by Stevivor, it’s impossible not to now. However, McDevitt points out that once someone playsAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, they’ll see it has “nothing to do with the poster that was in The Division 2.”
On the other hand, it seemsAssassin’s Creed Valhallais learning and adapting from its predecessor,Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.AC: Valhalla’s romance system sounds similar toOdyssey’s, for example, but the former will not have the grind of the latter. Ultimately, of course, fans will just need to wait and see how it compares to past games and if it is a far cry from that poster tease.
