This short guide will cover how players can light the lantern and keep it refilled throughout the game.
How To Find The Lantern (& How It Works)
First things first, how do players actually get their hands on the lantern? Players will find the lanternnext to Salim’s corpsewhile investigating theDeeper Caves in Chapter 1. Simple. The lantern gives Tasi greater freedom of movement, unlike matches. However,the lantern needs oil to function. Its current oil supply can be seen on a gauge while Tasi has it equipped. Alternatively, fans can open their inventory to see how much oil is left,represented by a scale of 0-10.

Oil, along with matchbooks, can be found scattered all over the environment. Canisters of oil come in varying sizes:small, medium, and large. Ultimately, the lantern should be used sparingly, only in areas where permanent light sources cannot be lit by a match. If players are judicious in their lantern usage and take the time toexplore thoroughly, managing oil shouldn’t be a major problem.
Players canequip/unequipthe lantern by pressing the"F" keyon the PC. Playstation-users can do the same by pressing the"Square" button.
How To Light The Lantern
Lighting the lanternrequires the player to have oil in their inventory.Open the inventory screen(TAB or TouchPad button) andselect which oil canister to use. Asmall canisterrestores2 points, amedium canister 3 points, and alarge canister 5 points. Select"Refill Lantern"to apply the oil.
It’s worth noting that oil burns relatively quickly in the lantern. When fully topped up at 10/10, the lantern will only last for about2 minutes and 40 seconds before burning out completely. As such, it’s always a good idea to keep plenty of matches on hand to light permanent fixtures throughout the map. Use the lantern only for emergencies and keep a few canisters in reserve toavoid sticky situations.
